Garage door repair or replace – is your garage safe?

Why you might need garage door repair

Most people probably don’t spend too much time worrying about their garage doors—until something goes wrong, that is. The obvious issue is that it might be too late by then! A much better strategy is to stay on top of your garage door repair and maintenance, to ensure you prevent any inconveniences, or, should worst come to worst, quickly resolve any issues.

Things to look out for

What are some red flags you should look out for, then? Well, is your door taking longer than it should do to open? Is it struggling to close properly? Does it get stuck? Whatever the issue, you might shrug it off as something minor when in fact it could eventually turn into something much more serious.

Here are some simple steps you can take to find the root of the problem:

  • Check the spring system: broken springs could certainly impact the function and safety of your doors (it’s best not to try and fix this yourself though).
  • Check all other components: from the rollers to the hinges, cables and more. Make sure all screws are tightened, no cables are frayed, and everything is properly aligned.
  • Lubricate your door: if things aren’t as smooth as they should be, it might just be that the components of your garage door need a little motor oil.

Still not working?

Whether you’ve followed these steps and can’t find the cause of the issue, or you’ve discovered a problem that you’re not qualified to fix safely, such as broken springs, then it’s time to bring in a professional to help with your garage door repair. From a quick and easy repair to a more serious issue that merits a complete replacement, leaving it in the hands of the experts is the smart choice.
